How Do PHCP-PVF Distributor Firms Shape Up Against Other Industries?

Have you ever wondered how your PHCP-PVF distributor firm’s key financial metrics match up against other industries in the distribution space?

Industry Insights, ASA’s business intelligence partner, has produced an exclusive document for all ASA members that outlines how ASA-member distributor companies’ aggregated performance benchmarks compare against other distribution industries, including the pharmaceutical, foodservice, electrical, beer, heavy equipment and petroleum distribution industries, among others.

Data was taken from the 2023 ASA Operating Performance Report and similar studies Industry Insights conducts for those other distribution industries included in the study.

The study compares key categories such as year-over-year sales growth, gross margin, net profit margin, asset turnover, return on assets and return on net worth — overall key performance measures — as well as data in categories such as management ratios, cash cycle, liquidity measures, employee productivity, income statement and operating expenses (35 financial measures in total).

As a quick example, plumbing supply houses enjoyed a 2022 net profit margin of 8.2%, while electrical distributors were at 6%, food service distributors were at 3.9% and pharmaceutical finished at 0.5%.
