ASA is Committed to Engaging ASA Members on Recognizing World Plumbing Day

Yes, World Plumbing Day (WPD) is an actual thing!  Every year on March 11th ASA joins with other stakeholders around the world working in the plumbing supply-chain in celebrating WPD.  The concept of WPD was first introduced by the World Plumbing Council in 2020 It is a date that has been fixed on the calendars of the World Plumbing community since its establishment by the WPC in 2010 and is now a fixture on the calendars of political and social institutions around the globe.

WPD is the day to honor and celebrate the critical role that our members, member employees and their customers play in societal health.  In our day to day activities we sometime forget the vital role we all play in promoting and ensuring the link between good quality plumbing, environmental sustainability, economic prosperity and public health and hygiene.

ASA began to celebrate the event last year and has formed a WPD Task Group of member volunteers to help ASA in developing ideas on how this important day can be celebrated.  Ultimately, our goal is to provide opportunity for our members to recognize the important role their employees, suppliers and customers play in ensuring the public health and safety of our nation.  The following highlight how ASA will be celebrating WPD and the tools we will be providing you to get your company and employees engaged.

World Plumbing Day Poster Contest

Beginning on March 1, 2023 and through the month, ASA will open up the WPD Poster Contest in partnership with the International Water, Hygiene and Sanitation Foundation (IWHSF).  ASA will sponsor a contest for children of ASA member company employees and ASA member company customers.  The ASA poster contest will be offering the following prizes:

              First Place                      Child - $500                  Child’s School - $500

              Second Place                 Child - $250                  Child’s School - $250

              Third Place                    Child - $100                  Child’s School - $100

All posters submitted to ASA will also be submitted to the IWHSF international competition where they will be eligible for additional cash prizes for both themselves and their school.  The contest is open to 1st through 6th grade (elementary / primary school age) children.

The Bradford White Corporation, an ASA Vendor Member Company, took advantage of last year’s poster contest to create an employee engagement opportunity.  Rebecca Owens, of Bradford White, led the initiative and provides below how their company engaged in their employees.  Hopefully, it will generate some ideas on how your company might join in on the fun.

The ASA poster contest provided a new and fun way for Bradford White Corporation to engage with its employees (and their families) while supporting World Plumbing Day. The initiative also highlighted the essential role plumbing professionals play in the health, safety, sanitation, comfort, and infrastructure of communities. To generate awareness for this contest, Bradford White worked with its internal communications team to develop and send out messaging to employees across the organization. Along with traditional messaging, the team also created a poster that was used across multiple communication platforms, including digital monitors, to spread the word. “The best part about the contest was seeing the artwork submitted by these young artists and how they illustrated the essential work of plumbers,” stated Greg Eynon, VP, Sales Operations. “It was equally great when we learned that members of the Bradford White family were recognized as winners, and we got to share and highlight the news with our employees.”  Bradford White was proud to partner with ASA for the inaugural contest and looks forward to building upon last year’s success and increasing participation from employees in the future.

Look for more information on the contest on or around March 1st of this year.  ASA will be sending to all of our Company members a digital flyer that you will be able to distribute to you employees and also have available to your customers.  If you are anxious to get started please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly for more information.  See my content information at the end of this article.

Social Media Posting Template

ASA is in the process of creating a template to be used by our members in their social media postings to celebrate World Plumbing Day.  The template will be customizable to add your company logo and will be designed to send a thank you message to all members of the plumbing supply chain in celebration of WPD.  Keep an eye out for the template and be sure to communicate to your social media team so they can prepare to utilize the post when received.

As ASA continues to celebrate WPD, it is our goal to develop new and creative ways for our members to celebrate the day.  One objective of the ASA WPD Task Group is to recognize the ways your company and your employees engage in the celebration.  As we receive examples of great ideas our members have initiated to celebrate the day, we will begin to post these as “best practices” for consideration by other ASA members.  So, get your employee engagement team or other employee group you might have to start thinking about how they can celebrate this important day within your company.  We look forward to receiving all of the fun and creative ideas we are sure you will come up with!

For more information on WPD you can go to the following links:

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss further how your Company might get involved.  Please contact me by email at jkendzel@asa.net.

The stainless weld fitting market continues to stay mostly flat on pricing, but there are continued signs that metals are rising, which could cause prices to start moving. @ASA_HQ #Commodities #Monday

Stainless steel pipe and fittings prices had remained under consistent, downward pressure since the end of 2022. The major reason was the precipitous fall of nickel prices following the astonishing runup of LME nickel prices during the first half of 2022.

Carbon steel futures are down 3% this month and 30% year-to-date. International markets are seeing more stress than domestic, as historically high interest rates in Europe have put massive pressure on inventories.

The Federal Reserve is still maintaining current rates but was still signaling two to three rate cuts in 2024, all being a quarter-point. The first cuts are expected to begin in June but could come earlier. #Commodities
