Who's Afraid of the Big, Bad Distributors?
Speaker: Ian Heller
Formidable companies are accelerating their efforts to take share from distributors. Well-capitalized and aggressive, firms like Amazon, Home Depot, Berkshire Hathaway and others have bought distribution firms or set up their own divisions to compete for the hearts and wallets of B2B buyers.
Distributors must respond and have a variety of choices, ranging from meeting these competitors head-on to folding up shop and selling out. But each of these disruptors is taking a different approach, meaning the threat varies greatly based on industries, segments, product lines and more.
Ian Heller of Distribution Strategy Group will help you sort it all out during his educational session. He’ll explain the strengths and weaknesses of each disruptor and offer specific advice for actions you can take immediately to build up your defenses and protect and grow your market share. Ian’s expertise comes from more than 30 years’ experience, including serving as a senior executive for four, publicly held distributors and years as an independent, strategic advisor.

Special Speaker: Ben Saunders
Ben Saunders is a record-breaking polar explorer, a TED ‘master storyteller’ and an advocate for future pioneers. Across two decades – and more than a year on the ice – he has covered more than 4,500 miles on foot in the polar regions. His accomplishments include leading The Scott Expedition, the longest human-powered polar journey in history, and the first completion of the expedition that defeated Captain Scott and Sir Ernest Shackleton, a 108-day round-trip from Ross Island on the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole and back again. Ben is the third person in history to ski solo to the North and South poles and holds the record for the longest solo Arctic journey by a Briton.
Topic: Staying Motivated and Resilient in Isolation
In many ways Ben Saunders is the ultimate ‘remote worker.’ On his record-breaking solo expeditions, he has to perform at the highest level while several thousand miles away from his colleagues and team that he has to be willing to trust with his life. This physical fragmentation – rich in logistical and psychological challenges – is something businesses and their leaders the world over have been plunged into in recent times.
Drawing on his experiences – of more than a year spent cumulatively alone in the Arctic and Antarctica – he shares his hard-won lessons on sustaining resilience, personal motivation and emotional wellbeing when the chips are down.
