About the Lab

D.Next research and innovation is focused on the distribution portion of the value chain that supplies our homes, workplaces and municipalities with the pipes, valves, ducting and fixtures we rely upon to supply clean water, filtered air, energy and sanitation in our homes and communities. 

The D.Next lab is powered by the American Supply Association – the national industry trade association representing distributors and their manufacturers.  D.Next Innovation Lab (asa.net)

About the Role

D.Next Innovation lab is seeking a Business Analyst: Part-Time Intern.

Using human-centered design, rapid ideation, primary & secondary research and prototyping, D.Next  teams may explore the roles, practices, perceptions, trends and technologies that power todays supply chain as well as develop solutions to re-architect or retire operating models or to transform interactions from transactional to experiential.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Must be an enrolled student pursuing a Bachelors, Masters or PhD degree.
  • Prefer students local to Champaign-Urbana to participate in on-site work at the University of Illinois Research Park D.Next lab.
  • We are open to students without major restriction.  We feel Individuals pursuing degrees in business, technology management, statistics, liberal arts & sciences, labor & employment relations, information science or communications might be a good fit for the lab.
  • Candidate must be able to provide their own laptop for day to day work.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Interested in human centered design techniques
  • Experience working with qualitative and quantitate data
  • Intellectual curiosity and a ‘I can do that’ attitude
  • Thrive in a team environment
  • Have mad Mario Kart skills

The opportunity to help the distribution industry, something far outside my major. I have learned a ton about business communication and presentation, and have a whole new respect for how much work goes into making it look and sound so easy.

The data we are creating is some of the industry's first. While this research is exciting, it comes with its challenges as we continue to discover the best ways to collect, communicate and present to our audience.

Something you'll remember about your D.NEXT internship:
Being in a mechanical engineering major, I rarely have the opportunity in the classroom to work in a team atmosphere like we have here at D.NEXT lab. While the technical skills I have developed over my time at the lab are important, the most impactful takeaway for me was the ability to experience a team in a real work environment while discovering the perfect balance between work and non-work that has set a standard for future teams and jobs.

Not only are we taking on the challenge of being the first people to really research this field, the way that our team collaborates allows for the courteous challenging of each other's ideas to make sure that the highest quality research produced.

Something you'll remember about your D.NEXT internship:
The culture of the D.NEXT team. I have never experienced anything like it before and I hope to be able to emulate the culture in my future.

Learning how to adapt myself to produce the best results and to help the supply industry adapt to changing expectations.

Something you'll remember about your D.NEXT internship:
The culture of the D.NEXT lab is the perfect balance of work & non-work. When we are no longer productive or burnt out, we know we can take break to help get back to a state of where we can do our best work. It's really a blessing.
