Federal Labor and Employment Laws  Product Information

ASA Education Foundation has been looking for an, understandable Federal Labor and Employment Laws reference for our members and are pleased to have found this solid, informative and easy to use guide through the increasingly complex maze of employment law and human resource management issues. From COBRA to FMLA, EEO to NLRA, this is a clear and concise reference tool that should be read by every HR practitioner, both novice and senior. This book breaks down often complex and confusing federal requirements and presents them so that anyone can be an ‘HR expert.’ DiLorenzo and London have distilled years of training and on-the-ground experience to a straightforward, accessible and very readable format.  In our exhaustive review we discovered that the book does not cover OSHA or DOT. Because of the dynamic nature of those two areas we recommend members hyper-link to the training and education for those organizations located here and in the Foundation’s e-learning center.

The Art of Supervising and Motivating People  Product Information
The Art of Supervising and Motivating People was written by distribution industry icon, Edward J. Felten, former Chairman of First Supply in the upper Midwest and former President of the American Supply Association. Distilling the wisdom of decades of management and leadership experience, Felten wrote The Art of Supervising and Motivating People in a down to earth readable style. Many of ASA members remember Felten as the energetic and humorous instructor of ASA’s favorite convention supervision seminar. The Art of Supervising and Motivating People addresses four main topics: • Section One details the characteristics of a good supervisor and the increased skill requirements of the twenty first century. • Section Two provides keys to the necessary skills of listening, time management, coaching, counseling, communications, discipline and several others. • Section Three guides the reader through the human resource challenges of recruiting, interviewing, performance appraisals and terminations. • Section Four explains the critical aspects of motivation and the skills of the supervisor as a motivator.
